Brashlett: The Spooky Font That Elevates Halloween Campaigns

I was knee-deep in designing a Halloween product launch for a boutique candle brand when I stumbled upon Brashlett. It wasn’t just any font—it was the kind of typeface that made my thumbnails scream with personality. With its jagged, handwritten feel and eerie vibe, Brashlett immediately felt like the missing piece to bring the campaign’s spooky theme to life.

Brashlett is a creepy looking handwritten brush font that feels like it was scrawled in the dead of night by someone with a shaky hand and a wicked sense of style. Its irregular strokes and uneven lines give it an authentic, almost unsettling energy. This isn’t a font you’d use for a corporate brochure or a clean website header. Instead, it’s perfect for Halloween designs, horror-themed content, and any spooky creations that demand attention and a touch of darkness.

As I built out the campaign visuals, I started using Brashlett for headlines, callouts, and decorative text across Instagram posts, Pinterest pins, and YouTube thumbnail concepts. The font added a layer of mood that no other script or display font could match. It didn’t just say “spooky”—it screamed it in a way that felt real and relatable to the audience.

One of the first places I used Brashlett was on a sale announcement graphic. The headline “Spooktacular Savings Inside” was transformed from a generic banner into something that felt like a cryptic invitation. The font’s texture and movement helped draw eyes instantly, especially on mobile feeds where users scroll fast and need visual hooks within seconds.

For YouTube thumbnails, I paired Brashlett with a clean sans serif font for body text. The contrast between the two made the message clear while keeping the spooky vibe intact. The same approach worked for email banners and website headers—using Brashlett as a display font for titles and a modern sans serif for supporting copy ensured readability without losing the brand’s thematic tone.

When working with dark backgrounds, I found that Brashlett’s lighter strokes stood out beautifully, making it ideal for overlays and image text. On light backgrounds, I adjusted the stroke weight slightly to maintain legibility. It’s important to remember that even the most unique font needs to be readable, especially in small previews or thumbnails where details can get lost.

Brashlett works best for short headlines, callouts, and decorative titles. It’s not meant for long paragraphs or dense blocks of text. When used strategically, it can elevate the visual hierarchy of a design, guiding the viewer’s eye toward key messages and reinforcing the campaign’s mood.

Font pairing was another consideration. I tested Brashlett with several clean sans serifs like Montserrat and Lato. The contrast between the wild, handwritten style of Brashlett and the crispness of the sans serif created a dynamic balance that kept the designs fresh and engaging. For more dramatic looks, I experimented with pairing it with a bold serif font, which gave the campaign an old-school, haunted-house feel.

Before finalizing the campaign, I checked the font’s included styles, alternates, and ligatures. Brashlett offered enough variation to keep the visuals interesting without overcomplicating the message. The file formats were also a plus—I needed access to both OTF and TTF for different platforms, and they were all there.

Commercial font licensing was another key point. Since this campaign involved digital ads, branded templates, and merchandise, I made sure to use Brashlett under a license that allowed for those uses. It’s always worth double-checking the terms before embedding a font into anything that will be shared publicly or sold.

Looking back at the campaign, Brashlett played a pivotal role in creating a cohesive visual identity that aligned with the brand’s Halloween theme. It wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about communication. The font helped convey the right mood, reinforced the brand’s voice, and made the campaign more memorable.

Whether you’re launching a seasonal sale, promoting a webinar, or building a social media series around horror movies, Brashlett is a versatile tool that adds character and clarity to your designs. Just remember to use it thoughtfully—let it enhance your message, not overshadow it.

If you’re working on a project that needs a little extra oomph, consider adding Brashlett to your toolkit. It might just be the font that turns your campaign from good to unforgettable.
